I came to win trophies

Memphis Depay
Depay has joined United to win "all the trophies possible" and says he will give his all to that end...

The 21-year-old Netherlands international admits he has much to learn about the Premier League but promised to score goals and provide assists in Manchester United's attempts to win the title.

"This is the biggest club in the world so I have to play for trophies - I came here to win trophies,"

"We have a lot of quality and all the potential to win all the trophies it is possible to win. I am excited to do my job for Manchester United and to score goals - I am a striker so I have to score and give assists.

"I have worked with Louis at the World Cup and I think you could see what he expects from me. I am a kid and still have a lot to learn but it is up to the boss where he plays me and I will give my all wherever he puts me."

Depay has often been compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Manchester United as an 18-year-old and shot to world fame.

But the Dutchman said: "I don't want to compare myself with someone like that. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world but I don't want to talk too much, I want to let my feet speak.

"I know this is not going to be easy. The United players say it's a very hard competition and that the game moves fast. I trained three times this week and I already feel it's different.

Van Gaal, meanwhile, expressed a degree of caution against over-hyping the youngster, using the likes of Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Angel di Maria as recent examples of players who have found it difficult to adjust to the rigours of England's top-flight.

"I think Memphis is one of the few highly-talented players his age," Van Gaal said.

"He is full of confidence and will say what he is thinking and feeling but he will also notice that it is not so easy in the Premier League. Rojo, Di Maria and Blind had problems so we will give Memphis time also."
